My seven-year-old son is a polite boy who is crazy about English.

He always greets the neighbors we are familiar with in English. For example, when we come across an aged female neighbor, he says “Hi, grandma.”， and then when we leave he says, “Goodbye, grandma.”

He calls any middle-aged woman“aunt”, any aged male “grandpa”，and any middle-aged man “uncle”. He calls the ones younger than those mentioned above “brother” or “sister”.

In fact, native English speakers only use these words to address their relatives. For examples, you don’t call any old lady except your father’s mother or your mother’s mother “grandma” , and you don’t call any woman but your father’s sisters or your mother’s sisters “aunt”.

But I don’t want to correct my son until I think he’s mature enough to understand the cultures of other countries. At present, I only want to encourage him to speak English as much as possible.
