When I was young, only 12 years old, my grandfather took me to the house that my mother grew up in. We would go there every couple weeks and I would help him do some work on the house. It was about a 2 Hour Drive from my home.

This one time that we were there, he had a motorhome set up on the front lawn of the old house. I asked him if I could sleep in the motorhome that night, and he said sure. He was going to sleep inside the old house, but he said he would leave the front door open in case I needed anything.

I went to bed that night, and as I slept, something shook me awake. I laid there alone in the dark with a sickning anxiety in my stomach. I tried to ignore the feeling and just go back to sleep, but something was urging me to go inside. I don’t know what it was, but it would not leave me alone. I felt terrified for no obvious reason.

Finally I jumped up, and ran out in to the darkness, across the wet grass bare foot, and into the old house. There were no lights and it was pitch black, but I knew my way around well enough that I ran upstairs to the bedroom where my grandfather was sleeping and jumped into bed beside him.

The next morning, I remember my grandfather shaking me awake. He asked me, why did I come inside to lay with him. I told him I didn’t know, something just woke me up and I had a very urgent feeling to get inside with him.

He told me then that he had accidentally left the gas running inside the motorhome, with all the windows and door shut. Had I laid there and slept for the night, I would never have woke up.

I believe there was an Angel by my side that day.

It is said that an old teacher was criticized by the principle because when he was teaching his students online，there was a network pop-up window jumping out suddenly showing something unfavouirable for young students. However，the teacher was focused on teaching without noticing it for a moment. One of the parents took a photo about it and complained about it to the school.

When I saw the news ，I have a lot to say about such kind of phenomenon. Perhaps everyone of us have come across such kind of situation when we surf the Internet. The pop-up windows jump out without any indicication. All of us are annoyed about that but we have no choice.

I think the teacher is so innocent when he was critized without good reasons. It's not the teacher‘s fault，especially for old teachers，who are not good at operating computers. Meanwhile ，he was busy teaching and didn't notice the pop-up window anyway.

I don't understand what the parent and the school did. Why didn't he guide his son or daughter to focus on what the teacher is teaching. Why didn't the school give some explanations to the parent about such kind of phenomenon and protect the teacher a little. After all，the teacher didn't do anything wrong.

I worry a lot what our education will be like if our teachers will be punished optionally without any good reasons，which will discourage the enthusiasm for teaching.

Suitors ~ Plummet (ing)

1. Suitors ~ n. A man who pursues a relationship with a particular woman, with a view to marriage. A suitor is a guy who asks you out on a date. You can describe your sister's prom escort as her suitor. The noun suitor is an old fashioned word for a somewhat old fashioned kind of person: a man who woos or courts a woman. If a boy serenades you from below your bedroom window, he is your suitor, especially if he hopes to marry you one day. In the fourteenth century, a suitor was a fan or follower — the romantic meaning came along almost two hundred years later. The root is the Latin word sequi, "to attend or follow."

2. Plummet ~ v. The verb plummet means "to drop sharply," like eagles that plummet toward earth, seeking prey, or school attendance that plummets when there is a flu outbreak. To correctly pronounce plummet, say "PLUH-met." This verb describes something that drops sharply or quickly, like a roller coaster that plummets down a hill, temperatures that plummet overnight, or sales of roses and candy that plummet after Valentine's Day. If something plummets, this doesn't mean it will stay down or low forever, just that it has experienced a sharp drop.

158. Finding Your Own Apartment

Julie was tired of living with her parents. She was 22, and just finished college. She started a new job in an office, and didn't want her parents to tell her what to do anymore, so Julie decided to start looking for an apartment. She started by looking at classified ads in the newspaper and checking on websites like Craigslist.

The first apartment she went to see sounded perfect on the newspaper. It was advertised as a cozy one-bedroom apartment with a view. She made an appointment to view the apartment. When the landlord opened the door, Julie was sorely disappointed. The cozy bedroom barely fit a twin mattress and a nightstand. The window actually offered a view of a brick wall.

Julie didn't give up hope though. The next apartment she saw was advertised as having a renovated kitchen. Since Julie loved to cook, she imagined herself cooking gourmet meals on shiny new kitchen appliances. However, the broker showing Julie around explained that the only renovations were new knobs on old wooden cabinets. Julie was beginning to lose hope. She then saw a listing for a basement apartment with access to a low maintenance yard. Julie imagined herself hosting barbecues for her friends until she saw that the low maintenance yard was a tiny slab on concrete.

Julie decided to stop looking for apartments that had features she liked. Instead she was going to look for an apartment close to her job. She read a listing for a studio that was close to a freeway. This meant a shorter commute. When she saw the place, she found that the studio actually overlooked the freeway, and traffic could be heard from the bedroom.

Julie was discouraged. She decided not to move out yet.
